Sustainable Development
 Sustainable development can be thought of as responsible development that meets today's needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet the needs of tomorrow. Central to the idea of sustainable development is that the urgent survival needs for the world's poor should be the first priority, while keeping in mind that there are limitations of future environmental consequences that need to be balanced. In order to adequately plan for sustainable development, we first need to see the world as a system, which connects both space and time.
Globalisatie
 Globalization refers to the modern day trend towards a greater interdependency of economies and societies around the world. It involves the interaction and integration of people, companies, governments, businesses, and technologies from all corners of the globe. Since globalization affects the environment, culture, economic development, politics, and quality of life in international societies everywhere, it often sparks a controversial debate with its fair share of both supporters and critics. Some people insist globalization helps raise the standard of living in developing countries while others argue that it simply enables Western multinational corporations to exploit the inequalities of international free trade.
Millennium Ontwikkelings Doelstellingen
 The Millennium Development Goals are a historic and ambitious plan that focuses on working with the world's poorest peoples. They are in essence, the primary world development challenges to be addressed by 2015, as agreed upon by the international community. The eight MDGs were formed from the actions and targets contained in the Millennium Declaration that was adopted by 189 nations and signed by 147 heads of state and governments during the UN Millennium Summit in September 2000. They span global concerns such as eradicating extreme poverty to preventing HIV/AIDS and ensuring universal primary education.
